Posted 25 June 2011 by [Comments Off]

There has been reports of players PCs crashing out after the v.13 patch was applied, I have not experienced this yet but it is affecting some players. TRION are aware of the porblem and the all the info has been passed back to the dev team who are hoping this will be resolved. Here’s what Elrar updated with:

I’ve passed this info on to the team concerning new issues after Hot Fix #2. I don’t have any details currently but didn’t want to leave you hanging.

Will let you know if I require any additional information – thanks!

Fingers crossed this will be resolved and everyone can get back to some cracking stable gameplay.

Buyback Temp Disabled

Posted 29 May 2011 by [Comments Off]

An exploit was found in the buyback system and so sadly the feature is currently disabled. Hopefully this will get plugged shortly.

Due to the abuse of a recently discovered exploit we have had to disable the buy-back feature on all merchants. We will re-enable this feature as soon as a fix has been made to the cause of the exploit and appreciate your patience in the meantime. We’ll provide an update here as soon as you are able to use this feature again – thanks for your understanding!

Mouse Turn Bug

Posted 17 May 2011 by [Comments Off]

Not experienced myself this evening,  but there is a weird bug with the mouse look/turn since the last update. TRION says the fix is coming and offers a suggestion to avoid it until the fix hits the servers.

This is indeed a software bug and unrelated to the hardware anyone is running. We have a fix for it that will be released soon.

It’s a pretty annoying bug so I’ll give everyone a bit more detail about how it’s triggered so (hopefully) you can avoid it. I know it’s a sub-optimal solution until the real fix comes out, but until then I think it’s better than nothing.

A single, quick, large mouse movement will put your client into this bugged state. After that, the client starts ignoring “medium sized” mouse movements, which is what most people notice and what I saw in the YouTube video someone posted. It takes a restart of the client or a loading screen type change (log out, instance change, etc.) to reset the client back into the non-bugged state.

If you can avoid that first quick, large movement with the mouse, your client will never get bugged, and the rest of your play experience should be a lot smoother.

Like I said, it’s not the best solution, but it’s better than nothing until the real bug fix hits the patch servers.

World Event Phase 2 on Hold

Posted 9 April 2011 by [Comments Off]

Following n from last night’s disabling of the Death Denied Quest and the chat infiltration this afternoon, TRION has decided to delay the launch of Phase 2 of the World Event as there are obviously major issues on a server level that are causing TRION no-ends of problems right now.

With the opening of the final phases of the River of Souls World Event in Europe we have identified several issues that only came to light in a live server environment. Due to this we have had to temporarily disable the World Event in Europe and are delaying the opening of the event on North American shards until a full investigation and corrections can be made.

We do not have a specific ETA at this time and apologize for the delay. We strive to provide a high-quality experience and will not start the event until it meets those standards. In the meantime, all players in Europe and North America can continue to participate in Phase 1 of the world event and earn Otherworldy Sourcestones. Thank you for your patience and understanding, we will keep you updated when additional information is available.

TRION has been busy keeping the community up to date with development but as yet there is no ETA on when Phase 2 will get underway. The latest update reads:

Hey all,

I will likely not have another update for at least a couple more hours and there remains a chance that it will not start today. Once that decision has been made you can be sure that I will update my original post and reply here.

Thank you,

Again, if you want to keep an eye on things around the official boards to find official posts on what is going on keep watching the TRION Dev Tracker.

Chat System Under Attack

Chat being spammed

Chat being spammed

A some of you may be aware if you’ve been in-game today, someone has managed to infiltrate the chat system on the servers and is spamming a website URL in the chat. TRION are aware of the and have been investigating it. They updated with the following:

Wanted to update that the individual carrying out these actions is only able to exploit a bug in our chat system. He does not have access to the server, our administration tools, nor account information.

This issue is being resolved as quickly as possible and we thank all of you for your swift actions to help bring this to our immediate attention.

You can keep an eye on the whole situation via our TRION dev tracker.

World Event Death Denied Quest Disabled

Posted 9 April 2011 by [Comments Off]

Not great timing this one what with it being the weekend but needs must. TRION has disabled the World Event Death Denied quest:

We have disabled the River of Souls World Event Quest: With Death Denied, and the associated Death Stone Item. This change was made due to a potential exploit that would trivialize the Phase 2 events. If you have this quest in your log you will need to abandon it as it will not be re-enabled for the remainder of the World Event. Thank you for your understanding and good luck against the forces of Alsbeth!

We realize it’s an inconvenience and do apologize, but it was either this or bring all shards offline for an immediate update. On a Friday night, with only one quest impacted, that was not an option.

It is unfortunate we could not get a fix in place before the weekend as we were working to do, but we will learn from this mistake for future events.

Thanks guys

No real explanation as to why it was turned off, but the theory is that the Death Stone could be used to great effect in Phase 2 Invasions making them not exactly challenging.  Some players are disappointed the quest was completely turned off instead of being allowed to turn it in but with Phase 2 kicking off tomorrow, TRION will be wanting to make sure it runs as smooth as possible to keep it challenging.

Major RIFT Security Hole Plugged – Hartsman Updates

Posted 19 March 2011 by [Comments Off]

If you’ve been following all the hacking issues for the past few weeks you’ll know that it’s been a bit of a nightmare for TRION.

In the past 48 hours a player going by the name of ManWitDaPlan found a major vulnerability in the login process that allowed him to basically login to anyone’s account without the correct credentials. Thankfully ManWitDaPlan was a decent community member and contacted TRION to let them know how he did it. TRION verified the process and hopped right on the case to plug the hole. Last night’s patch update will have sorted the issue out and outstanding problems with the Coin Lock feature which allowed hackers to delete characters despite being Coin Locked.

It has been a tough launch for TRION with a lot of accounts being compromised, whether it is through this bug that was found or hackers phishing for details, but they have been on the case since mass reports started to come on. Although this bug has been sorted, players need to be very careful with their login information as well as keeping their PC protected from anything that could be served through a web browser.

Since the update rolled out, Scott Hartsman responded to fill everyone in on the bug and what exactly went down which is great to see.  It’s a long update so read it all after the break.

    Dye Vendor Removed

Posted 11 March 2011 by [Comments Off]

The dye vendors in both main cities (Keyvin Stylwit in Meridian and Fionasinna in Sanctum have been temporarily removed.  Apparently a bug caused the brown dye to be free. It seems it’s easier to remove an NPC than a bottle of dye.  Hopefully this’ll be fixed soon and our chaps-wearing, back-sides hanging out vendors will be returned to us fully stocked.

Meanwhile check out my Dyeing Guide for pictures of all the dyes on different clothes.

    Runebreaking Temporarily Disabled

    Posted 3 March 2011 by [6]

Take note crafters, Runebreaking has been temporarily disabled on the servers. Apparently there was an expolit which involved selling an item while Runebreak was casting and you would get the money for the materials then buy back the item and do it all over again. No word as yet as to when that will be fixed up.

UPDATE: Trion have released Hot Fix #4 which has fixed this bug and runebreaking is active again.
