RIFT Around the Intertubes

Posted 16 March 2011 by [Comments Off]

RIFT coverage is starting to seep through including some reviews. Here’s a round-up of the RIFT action so far:

  • Interview with Scott Hartsman on Massively where he discusses the launch. Not sure what servers Massively were on but on our server Blightweld the queues were terrible for over a week and certainly were not better the day after the headstart as indicated in the interview. The official forums were also bombarded with queue complaints from all servers for over a week.

Some of the reviews that have appeared have been written a little too early for my liking to get a full impression of the game. TRION had set a review embargo for just after the game’s launch but I think that should have been set to be longer as there is no way you can get a review of a game such as RIFT done properly in such a short space of play time. This is however a problem with the videogame industry as a whole with sites trying to race each other to get the first review up.

I expect we’ll see more reviews this week and these are the ones I would pay attention to becuase by this point most reviewers would have either got to a high enough level or maxed out if they have been putting in the time.

GamePro’s First Ten Days in Telara

Posted 7 March 2011 by [Comments Off]

It looks like reviews are being held back on RIFT at the moment as reviewers spend some quality time in the game, and rightly so. However, GamePro has put together their ‘not a review’ article which looks at the game as they play through the content leading up to their review. So far they have pretty much nailed it with their impressions in my opinion. Check out the First Ten Days in Telara article, it’s a good read.
