Runecrafting
From RIFT Wiki - RIFT IncGamers
What is Runecrafting?
Runecrafters are trained to create runes and enchantments to increase the potency of equipment. Their training also allows them to Runebreak, which lets them siphon crafting materials from enchanted items. It's well suited to pair with Outfitting because the clothes you make with that can be broken down into reagents and the materials to make them drop from mobs. So you have access to break down items dropped by mobs and the clothes you make as an Outfitter.
How do I become a Runecrafter ?
You can train to four levels of proficiency and each has certain prerequisites that you need to meet before you are able to progress to the next rank of proficiency. The table below details the specific requirements for training to each rank within Runecrafting.
| Level | Skill Level Required | Cost to Learn |
|---|---|---|
| Novice | 0 | 10 Silver |
| Skilled | 75 | 50 Silver |
| Expert | 150 | 2 Gold. 50 Silver |
| Master | 225 | 12 Gold. 50 Silver |
Below is a list of locations with links to maps which pinpoint exactly where the Trainer can be found. Coordinates are in parentheses which you can find in game via the map (press m) mousing over the terrain with your cursor.

Do I need any special equipment?
When you train as a Novice Runecrafter the icon on the left will appear in your action bar. Clicking this will open up your recipe list and this is where all recipes you learn from here on in will be found. You will need to locate a Workbench and be next to it in order to create concoctions.
How do I learn recipes?
You can buy them from a Runecrafter Trainer who, for a fee, will train you in recipes up to his own level of expertise. A Novice Runecrafter Trainer can not train in you in the same recipes as a Master for example.
You can also purchase some recipes with Artisan Marks and Profession Plaques that are earned doing daily profession quests.
How do I get the supplies I need?
- You can Runebreak items into components such as shards and powders
- Other components can be bought from a Runecrafting Supplier.
- You can also trade with other players for ingredients at the Auction House.
How do I Runebreak?
When you learn Runecrafting you receive a Runebreak icon (as left), it will be placed in your abilities book (P). Drag that to your action bar for easy access. When you have an item that is 'Runebreakable' you left click the icon and left click the item you wish to break down. Once broken down a loot box will appear with the [components you received].Each item requires a certain skill level in Runecrafting to break down.
| Item Level | Min Skill Level |
|---|---|
| 1 - 18 | 1 |
| 19 - 28 | 75 |
| 29 - 38 | 150 |
| 39 - 50 | 225 |
It is not entirely predicable as to which reagent/s you will get when you break down an item but as a general rule you will get
- Flickering reagents from green items (green)
- Sparkling reagents from rare items (blue)
- Shimmering reagents from epic items (purple)
You can not runebreak items bought from a vendor, potions or runes made with Runecrafting.
What things can I create with Runecrafting?
Runes and transmutation of materials into higher grade materials.
Runecrafters can also upgrade their own materials. Below are the different upgrades. This does not require a workbench to perform.
Right click on a pile and if you have the correct quantity it will upgrade and break down.

How do I make items?
You will need the ingredients and supplies from a vendor.
All recipes require you to be next to a workbench. These can be found in cities and other settlements and will be located next to a Runecrafting trainer. Click the recipe to create.
How do I level up Runecrafting?
Through creating Runes. You do not level up when you Runebreak. All recipes have skill levels requirements to perform and depending on your skill level in Runecrafting you will gain levels crafting the recipe. Check the image on the right to give you an example of how your recipe interface will look. Below is a table showing what each colour means.
| Colour | % Chance to level up |
|---|---|
| orange | 100% |
| yellow | 70% |
| green | 30% |
| Grey | 0% |
Levelling Route
The number of times I had to craft the recipes may vary from yours as the hit rate after the recipe turns yellow is not 100%. When recipes turned yellow I sometimes carried on crafting them if I had an abundance of a material such as Flickering Powder but I didn't craft anything once it turned green.
This somewhat depends on which runes you will want to use or give away so you may follow this route in general but may want to craft the odd more useful rune here and there.
NOTE: Some recipes may not be the most efficient option but as they form part of your Workorders (daily quests to earn Artisan Marks) I chose to make them. A list of the Runecrafting#Runecraft Workorders is below.
Level 1 - 20
Dim Resolute Rune x 241 x Flickering Shard
Turns yellow at 10
Each Shard requires 3 x Flickering Powder. I had an abundance of these because every runebreak of a very low level item will yield you at least one Flickering Powder so I crafted this until I got to skill level 20.
Level 21 - 40
Glowing Thwarting Rune x 261 x Flickering Powder and 1 x Perpetual Blur
Turns yellow at 30
I went with what I had in my backpack at this stage and I had a lot more Perpetual reagents than Sentience or Kinetic from breaking down the items I had been finding at my character level. I took this one to level 40. I went great guns until level 39 when it took me 4 tries to raise the last point.
Level 41 - 50
Glowing Resolute Rune x 101 x Flickering Crystal
Turns yellow at 50.
A much better choice here because we are back with the Uncommon reagents. If you're lacking in reagents you can pick up Flickering Powder pretty cheaply at the auction house. It takes 9 Flickering Powders to make a Crystal so I only took this to level 50 when it turned yellow.
Level 51 - 60
Glowing Insightful Rune x 102 x Flickering Powder and 1 x Sentience Spark
Turns yellow at 60.
Level 61 - 70
Glowing Rage Runeshard OR Glowing Recondite Runeshard x 102 x Flickering Powder & 1 x Kinetic Arc & 1 x Perpetual Blur
Turn yellow at 70.
These both use the exact same ingredients so make whatever best suits you, your guild or what you are trading at the Auction House.
Level 71 - 80
Bright Unwavering Rune x 101 x Flickering Shard & 2 x Flickering Powder & 1 x Sentience Surge
Turns yellow at 80.
Don't forget to train at level 75! When you turn level 76 you should have quite a few items ready to break down that can't be until reaching that level.
Level 81 - 90
Glowing Potent Rune OR Glowing Sagacious Rune x 102 x Flickering Powder & 2 x Kinetic Arc OR 2 x Flickering Powder & 2 x Sentience Spark
Both turn yellow at 90.
The two best options now are Glowing Potent Rune or Glowing Sagacious Rune but as 4 Glowing Potent Runes are needed for Workorder: Glowing Potent Runes (Defiant), (Guardian) I did those.
Level 91 - 100
Bright Adamant Rune x 101 x Kinetic Arc, 1 x Perpetual Blur
Turns yellow at 100.
Bright Thwarting Rune is also viable at this stage but looking at the reagents it would have taken more to create the glows and shards needed for that than the Adamant Rune.
Level 101 - 110
Bright Resolute Rune x 102 x Flickering Crystal
Turns yellow at 110.
The next one was an easy decision because all three recipes available required 1 Flickering Crystal (18 Flickering Powders) but two required other 'dusts' too. So I went for Resolute.
111 - 120
Bright Rage Runeshard OR Bright Recondite Runeshard x 101 x Flickering Shard, 1 x Kinetic Charge, 1 x Perpetual Glow
Turn yellow at 120.
These two require the exact same ingredients so it comes down to which one is most useful to you to use, gift or sell.
121 - 142
Bright Potent Rune OR Bright Segacious Rune x 15 Potent and x 10 Sagacious2 x Flickering Shard, 1 x Kinetic Charge or
2 x Flickering Shard, 1 x Sentience Surge
Turn yellow at 130.
Both Runes are needed for daily Workorders. Because each Workorder asks you to make 5, making one lot of each will take you up to skill level 130 when both recipes will turn yellow but as these are daily quests you may as well still craft them even though chances to skill up are less.
143 - 150
Luminous Elusive Rune x 82 x Kinetic Charge
Turns yellow at 150.
This recipe comes from the Runecrafting Vendor Dashnai Batu - The Manufactory, Meridian (6001,5269) or Monleen - Bahralt Street, Sanctum (7495,2993). It was the cheapest for materials as you can transmute Kinetic Charges from Sentience Surge and Flickering Shard.
Don't forget to train at level 150!
151 - 160
Luminous Deft Rune x 10
1 x Flickering Crystal and 1 x Kinetic Charge
Turns yellow at 160.
This rune forms a Workorder which you'll get at clvl 35. Even if you're not that level yet you can still make them and bank them until you get the workorder. Once you've made one you will be at skill level 151 which means you can break down the items you've been storing in your bags and bank.
161 - 170
Luminous Resolute Rune x 10
3 x Flickering Crystal
Turns yellow at 170.
This seems an expensive choice requiring 3 Crystals which works out at 45 Flickering Powders but I still found these easier to get either through runebreaking or the auction house than Kinetic Charges and Perpetual Glows required for the other recipe Luminous Adamant Rune. Neither are required for a workorder.
171 - 180
Luminous Thwarting Rune x 101 x Flickering Crystal and 1 x Perpetual Glow
Turns yellow at 180.
All other recipes at this stage require rare (blue) ingredients, so this was an easy choice.
181 - 190
Luminous Potent Rune OR Luminous Potent Rune x 102 x Flickering Crystal and 2 x Kinetic Charge OR 2 x Flickering Crystal and 2 x Sentience Surge
Turn yellow at 190.
These are the only two orange recipes available at skill level 180. I had a lot more Kinetic ingredients that Sentience at this point so I didn't need to break anything down and I was able to make the potent runes immediately.
